Anyway! In regard to that iron law of oligarchy I was talking about 2 hours ago. If you think about it, time is limited, and some people like CoH more than other games. So they play more, and they get better. They become those who know how the game is played. This is the case within any human endeavor, including politics. Not everyone can be involved in the process; it's just not practical. You need someone to spend all their time and specialize to be effective, and thus, the oligarchy is born. |

@rossm321 What standard would you judge a society by, if not by material condition? |

Is the most efficient way of producing material condition not to work 24/7 like a human battery? Is that not how Skynet would do it, and be considered the superior society in the eyes of science? |
| Aug 30, 2026 02:23:16 |
edgewalker69

The society with the most and the best material condition is clearly superior. Rationally. But empirically, does the material condition equate to the good and your individual quality of life? Would the rational approach not dictate that any irrational behavior be deemed wrong, as it introduces material inefficiencies? |

I wonder, if we apply rational science, what race has produced the best society? And compared to what standard? - It would have to be measured in materialism, would it not? Anything else would be a subjective opinion on lifestyle. As one may value X God, and produce one set of irrational behavior, and another may value Y God and produce another set of irrational behavior. - Both are irrational and a waste of time in the pursuit of material conditions. |

Would you not then write down your findings, test them over generations, and affirm or dispel the findings? - What if that is what the Bible is about? Hard-won experience encoded in stories so they would be remembered and passed down? The cumulative experience of generations boiled down to timeless virtues, aware of our flaws and irrationality. |
| Aug 30, 2026 01:19:13 |

If man is perfectly rational, and the truth is rational science, then any behavior that hurts you is irrational, and therefore wrong. - So a smoker would be denied service at the NHS, because it's irrational and scientifically proven to hurt you. And now, we are approaching communist territory and mico managing of individual behavior, are we not? |
| Aug 30, 2026 01:18:52 |

You argued that if someone never told one about the Christian God, one would never discover that God. - But would you discover that love and forgiveness are virtues? Or that jealousy and pride are a trap? You would have to observe the consequences of those actions and behaviors and judge them as either good or bad, relative to a subjective standard or goal. - So there is no objective answer to it, so how can you deny a guy acting in that way as being wrong, if he thinks his actions are right? |

The liberal and communist believe man is born rational and good, and therefore, all evil must be a product of the environment. A social construct, as they say. And if only they can get control of the institutions that have proved to fail in the past, and rid them of all previous tradition, custom, religion, and superstition, the perfect rational man is possible. - If scientific reason is the epistemological truth, would all of human history not prove that thesis wrong? |
